Why I do what I do

My story starts with my father and mother, an engineer and a school teacher, who immigrated to Canada to give their children a brighter future. Our family name, Balian, traces back to a renowned dynasty of architects who left their mark on the historic city of Constantinople, designing some of the Ottoman Empire’s most iconic structures despite being a Christian Armenian minority.

Growing up, I was deeply inspired by the builders in my family. My grandfather was a self-made high-rise builder, starting work at just 13 to support his family. Two of my uncles followed in his footsteps, and one of them moved to Toronto and founded Golden Bee Homes, where my own career began.

From a young age, I was fascinated by construction, tagging along to job sites and working as a laborer during my teenage years. After graduating in economics, I was set to climb the corporate ladder in banking. But the pull of family, legacy, and the passion for building something meaningful drew me back to join my uncle in growing Golden Bee Homes.

Starting small, I wore every hat imaginable—marketing, sales, operations, and office management—eventually earning a seat on the leadership team. Together, we grew from a modest team of four to a thriving business generating $2 million in annual revenue. But we hit a glass ceiling, trying countless strategies without breaking through.

That’s when we implemented the EOS (Entrepreneurial Operating System) and adopted the proven frameworks I learned through CMOx. Those tools were transformative, allowing us to shatter that ceiling and scale beyond what we thought possible.

Today, I live in Toronto, Canada, with my wife—the woman of my dreams—where I draw on my journey to help remodeling companies across the US unlock their own growth potential, ensuring they achieve the success they’ve worked so hard to build.

  • Golden Bee Homes is a Remodeling firm in Toronto, ON.

    They have adopted the Design Build model and have a team of designers who capture their clients vision, wants, and needs, as well as a production crew to make it all happen.

  • When I joined them, the team was comprised of the owner along with 2 guys on the production side working from a small office in an industrial part of town.

    They didn’t have a clear marketing plan and were just trying random tactics that didn’t work well together. This led to inconsistent results which meant they couldn’t count on it for reliable revenue. Until then, word of mouth had been their primary source of business.

  • Jack, the owner and founder of Golden Bee Homes, wanted to grow his business. Although he was a terrific salesman, he lacked the marketing knowhow he knew he needed to scale and reach his goals.
